THE CONNECTOR VIDEO BLOG VOL. I: "THREES"
Просмотров 4 тыс.9 месяцев назад
I figure I'm just gonna talk for twelve minutes about something that means the world to me. Two weeks until rehearsals start for my first show with Daisy Prince in over twenty years. THE CONNECTOR is everything I want a musical to be, it's smart and dangerous and weird and funny and intimate and epic and it has my favorite music I've ever written for the theater. And tickets are on sale now: mc...

When I'm Seven-Four (featuring Mike Titlebaum)
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.4 года назад
The great Mike Titlebaum, director of jazz studies at Ithaca, joins me for a typically restrained arrangement of the Beatles's "When I'm Sixty-Four" in isolation, also featuring Mike's overzealous video editing which includes footage of both of us in college. (We were in a band together called the Eastman Chamber Rock Ensemble.)

This was awesome. Especially fun about the lick you learned (the two sextuplets), which is joyous to hear, and how you used it to challenge yourself. There are a LOT of licks and incredible piano parts in this show, and the band/pit is stunning. Looking forward to future deep dives.

This was fantastic! Thank you for the breakdown - incredible how much work went into this show! It's remarkable to see how intentionally you've built some of the smaller details, such that the audience doesn't consciously notice them but it absolutely affects the characterization.

Amazing. It’s such a beautiful piece of work. I’d love to know how working with Daisy brings something different out of you through the process than your other collaborators, having waited so long for the third show together. Also more of these kinds of breakdown videos would be incredible.

Not entirely sure how this video got suggested to me amidst all the stuff about Ukraine and hurricanes and who knows what else today. Muscovy Ducks. Of course. Last time I saw Scott Bakula in New York - the only time actually - April 8th? 1995. Well definitely April 8th or April 9th something like that. Anyone can whistle. Who thought I would ever be at Carnegie Hall. Or the Hollywood bowl or Ford's theater. Or somewhere in St Louis. And let's not forget UCLA and... Then I got tired of fighting with going through TSA and then I got laid off and it's been a long time. And I guess this is the only thing you had to say.

I must say this surprised me. Her artistic chkices are lovely; from the more simple “thin” juvenile sound, to the thick rich “deep hurt”… a lovely rendition. My favourite is still Lea Salonga, but this moves right up there beside her.

Mic'd but not a muffler covering her face. Might be some post production, but not auto-tuned to within an inch of its life. She doesn't need it. Ms Ervio is perfection just as she is.

By far the best version. Both powerful and character driven whereas a lot of other versions are one or the either
